Munich: Police thwarted robbery on Sonnenstrasse – Munich

The Munich police are currently dealing with three robbery crimes, and in two cases the perpetrators are still being sought. A 27-year-old from the Munich district fell to robbers on Saturday morning around 4 a.m. on Munich’s Sonnenstrasse. As the police report, he left the “Milk Bar” after a party and was carrying a paper bag with him, which a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old were interested in.

The 27-year-old did not answer questions about the contents of the bag, whereupon the two men pushed him to the ground and tried to take the bag from him. The robbery only failed because police patrol officers observed it, intervened and arrested the two men. An investigating judge must now clarify whether they will remain in custody.

At the weekend, the Munich police also made public two further cases of robbery with calls for witnesses, which had already occurred on Friday, November 17th. In the first case, a 51-year-old cyclist from Munich fell victim to a group of five young people on the Truderinger Friedenspromenade around 10 p.m.

The 51-year-old was approached by five pedestrians and one of the group suddenly pulled her off her bike as she slowly cycled past, causing her to fall and sustain minor hand injuries. Another person in the group stole the backpack with cash and debit card from the bicycle basket and the group fled unrecognized. The 51-year-old only filed a complaint afterwards; the Criminal Investigation Department 21 (robbery offenses) is investigating and is asking for information from witnesses.

The police are also hoping for witnesses to a similar crime, which was also committed on Friday, November 17th between 7:25 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on Marienplatz in front of Munich City Hall by a “larger group” of 25 people. As the police further describe, this group “suddenly approached and insulted” two 15-year-olds – one from the Munich district, one from Nuremberg.

After a short verbal argument, the group asked the 15-year-olds to hand over their valuables. The two boys bought their way out with a “small amount of cash” and then went home. It was only afterwards that they and their legal guardians filed a report with the police. She is now hoping for clues about this noticeably large group of people.
