Alleged employees of a carpet cleaning company cheat their way into apartments in order to steal from senior citizens: The Munich police are currently warning of a scam, and the investigators are currently being “inundated” with such cases.
Most recently, a more than 80-year-old woman in Taufkirchen fell victim to the scammers. According to police, an unknown man initially posed as an employee of a carpet cleaning company over the phone and claimed that he wanted to thank the supposedly loyal customer with a gift. Shortly afterwards, her doorbell rang and a stranger with a bouquet of flowers stood in front of her. The woman invited the 30-year-old man in. When she later accompanied him out again, she saw another man who was escaping her apartment – apparently an accomplice who had stolen hundreds of euros and valuables while the elderly woman was distracted. The police are now looking for the two perpetrators.
