Munich-Oberföhringer Wehr: police shoot at man – Munich

A man was shot at a police check in the Englischer Garten on Wednesday evening. As a spokesman for the Munich police said, two plainclothes officers wanted to check the man at the Oberföhringer Wehr around 6 p.m. when he first showed a pointed object and shortly afterwards a weapon-like object.

As a result, weapons were used and several shots were fired. The man was injured and taken to a hospital. His health was initially unclear. The officers were not injured.

Several emergency vehicles, a helicopter and a sniffer dog were in use in the vicinity of the weir. Many joggers and cyclists who were out and about in the English Garden were diverted. The meadow on which the operation took place was cordoned off over a large area. According to the police, there was no longer any danger to other people in the evening.

Now the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office is investigating to check whether the police officers have used their weapons lawfully. In addition, the Munich criminal police has taken over the investigation “on the previous threat,” as the police announced.
