Antonia Buchner is in the water. The current tugs at her brown curls and royal blue dress. “With all your words you left me like a frozen rose,” sings Antonia Buchner, 23, in her music video. “Frozen Rose” is the song with which she went public in 2020. Many of her lyrics come from old diaries – she started writing lyrics when she was eleven.
With her music, Antonia wants to help people break free from toxic relationships. In her songs she chooses uplifting words that she would have liked to have heard herself in her childhood and youth. She has something to say to both her former self and the world. Her “message”, as the communication design student puts it, is packaged in sounds somewhere between pop, soul and R’n’B. She accompanies her delicate but determined voice on the piano. She likes it melancholic, she likes it cinematic.
“Melancholic music always gives me such a safe space,” says Antonia. Sharing this “safe space” with others was not easy for her at first. “Frozen Rose” was finished a year before release, but Antonia kept tinkering with it. “It’s one thing to write about it, but then to sing it, release it and actually play it live is awesome.”
In 2022 her first appearance in Bahnwärter Thiel. She quickly had to realize – she wasn’t the born stage pig. “Because I was super excited for a very, very long time,” says Antonia. But gradually she was able to get rid of the nervousness. Today she says she wants to be “on big stages and reach as many people as possible”. This August, Antonia played at the Zamanand Festival on Ludwigstrasse.
Antonia’s latest release “HER” was originally created as a soundtrack for a short film with other Munich artists. In keeping with her character, she is currently drifting from one project to the next and no longer wants to produce her music entirely on her own. Along with other musicians, “there are a few songs in the pipeline,” says Antonia. However, most of her songs are still created at night in her room. There, where she was already writing in her diary at the age of eleven.
