French saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave, who has lived in Munich for a long time, and British guitarist Rob Luft met at the Montreux Festival some time ago. Anyone who has had their eyes on the two for a long time, such as Bordenave’s collaborations with Geoff Goodman, Henning Sieverts or Christian Elsässer and his outstanding albums “Terre de Sienne” and the ECM debut “La Traversée”, in the case of Luft above all the collaboration with the Singer Elina Duni, who could have bet that something would develop from it. Because both of them are outspoken sound aesthetes and despite all – today no longer self-evident – being rooted in tradition, they open up new avenues, avant-garde fine spirits.
