Munich main station: fire brigade in rush hour traffic – Munich

An automatic fire alarm had triggered in the basement, people had to leave the area and S-Bahn were not allowed to stop. It wasn’t just the false alarm that messed up rush hour traffic.

At Munich Central Station there was a fire brigade on Tuesday morning rush hour – one of the automatic fire alarms was triggered. The people in the basement received an announcement asking them to leave the area immediately. “In a kebab shop there were fire fighters with respiratory masks,” observed one passenger. Shop owners and staff waited outside the exits to go back to their stores.

The S-Bahns on the main line ran briefly without stopping at the underground station. However, the alarm turned out to be unfounded, as a fire department spokesman said: “That was a classic false alarm.”

Otherwise, the rush hour traffic on the main route was not smooth: the repair of a train at Hirschgarten messed up the cycle, the S6 to Tutzing and the S8 to Herrsching had to be rerouted between Pasing and Munich East.
