Munich: Laimer underpass blocked for cars for more than two months – Munich

The Laimer underpass will be closed to car traffic from March 13th to May 22nd. This is reported by Deutsche Bahn (DB). A detour will be set up via Landsberger Straße, Friedenheimer Brücke, Wilhelm-Hale-Straße and Arnulfstraße. Bus routes 51, 151, 168 and N78 will be diverted. Information on this is available at www.mvg.de/laimer-unterfuehrung.

The underpass will remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists during this time. The Laim S-Bahn station can also be reached without restrictions.

In Laim, work is underway on the second main line of the S-Bahn, which will also include the renewal of the underpass. In addition to the underpass for cars, the so-called environmental network tube is being built there, through which environmentally friendly traffic – i.e. bicycle and pedestrian traffic as well as public transport – can cross under the railway tracks in the future.

The environmental network tube is also an important section of the new Westtangente tram route, which will in future connect Romanplatz in Neuhausen with the Aidenbachstrasse underground station in Obersendling. The excavation work for the southern section is currently underway. For this purpose, the existing structure will be reinforced with steel strips, which is why a temporary closure of the Laimer underpass to road traffic is necessary.

While the delays in the construction of the second trunk line mean that there are now fears that the environmental network tube will not be completed in time, the Munich transport company (MVG) continues to assume that the first section of the west tangent will go into operation in 2025. Tram line 12 could then be extended beyond Romanplatz to Laim and the U5.
