Munich: In the future, subways will run all night long on weekends – from when it applies – Munich

The Munich transport company (MVG) hesitated for a long time. Now it is introducing the night subway, which has often been requested. When the timetable changes next December, night owls can also benefit from the fast underground connections from Friday to Saturday, Saturday to Sunday and before public holidays.

The concept should look like this: The lines U2, U3 and U5 run every 30 minutes. The U1, U4 and U6 lines also run every 30 minutes, with a 15-minute delay, each with a “rendezvous in the center”, as it is called in the MVG’s new service program.

This means that the lines at the inner city stations Hauptbahnhof, Sendlinger Tor and Odeonsplatz offer passengers connecting connections. A nightly offer to Garching is still being coordinated.

At the same time, the nightly tram lines that meet every half hour at Stachus to provide connections will also be maintained.

The MVG is adjusting the night bus service because of the new subway connections. The N40 only runs between Münchner Freiheit and Kieferngarten, the remaining section is taken over by the U6. The N41 only runs between Harras and Fürstenried West, the remaining section of the current connection between Fürstenried West and Feldmoching is taken over by the U3 and U2.

The N45 line only runs between Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Waldperlach. The previous terminus at Münchner Freiheit will now be accessible at night with the U3 or U6.

As far as daytime operations are concerned, there are some innovations here, like every year. In the future, the U3 will run to Moosach every five minutes during rush hour.

Tram 12 will be extended to Schwabing Nord and will in future run every ten minutes from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. In the future it will use the existing operating tracks on Parzivalstrasse.

According to MVG, this will create a new direct connection between Schwabing Nord and Neuhausen and, in the future, together with the west tram tangent that is still to be built, a tangent between the southwest and the north of the city.

Due to insufficient demand outside of rush hour, Metrobus 62 should only run every ten minutes, and line 132 should no longer run into the valley if the city sets up a pedestrian zone there.
