Munich: Impressions of the Munich Mash 2023 in the Olympic Park – Munich

The Munich Mash in the Munich Olympic Park has been a fixed date for action sports fans since 2014: When the world’s best athletes meet here on the last weekend in June, spectacular jumps are part of the standard repertoire. But one thing is also clear: the way the event is structured, it also has something to offer the many visitors, above all the many families with children who gathered in the Olympic Park at the weekend.

Of course, many spectators are attracted by the skate park, where skateboarders show tricks.

There are also many stations where visitors can try themselves. For example on the balance board on which Lena tests her balance:

The city of Munich is also participating with a course. Based on the competition show “Ninja Warrior” she called him “Minga Warrior”. But the core has remained the same: the participants have to shimmy from device to device and overcome obstacles, which requires a lot of stamina and even more strength.

According to organizer Frank Seipp, around 70,000 spectators came to the trend sport festival in the Olympic Park last year, and he is expecting even more visitors this year; how much it will ultimately be this weekend will only be known during the course of Sunday. But one thing can already be said: After the rainy Friday, more and more people flocked to the site every hour on Saturday – no wonder, the weather improved during the course of the day.

Seipp was satisfied with the relaxed and good-humoured atmosphere: It is important to him that, in addition to action sports, there are also enough offers for the general public, that everything is family-friendly. And there were also a few scattered tourists in the audience, sofas invited to rest.

Street dance is part of the main program at Munich Mash for the first time. Last year, the dance interludes took place in the accompanying program in the Theatron am See, but they met with such interest and enthusiasm from the audience that they ended up in the main program this time. Perhaps the fact that breaking – often called breakdance – will be an Olympic discipline for the first time in 2024 also helped with the decision.

The Munich Mash runs until Sunday evening.
