The train strike of the train drivers’ union GDL in Bavaria also causes numerous train cancellations on the second day. A replacement schedule still applies, said a rail spokesman on Thursday morning. In long-distance traffic, only around 25 percent of trains ran nationwide from 2 a.m. on Wednesday, and around 40 percent in regional traffic. This level is also planned for Thursday. There are therefore considerable local differences in regional transport. The strike is said to last until Friday at two o’clock in the morning.
The S-Bahn in the greater Munich area are also badly affected by the strike. As on Wednesday, they should drive at least every hour. An interval of 20 to 40 minutes is planned on some lines. For line 8 to the airport, the replacement schedule provides for a 20-minute cycle.
The subway, tram and buses in Munich and the MVV regional buses are not affected by this strike, but could be fuller than usual.
The Munich S-Bahn has drawn up a replacement schedule for the strike days:
- the S 1 only runs between Leuchtenbergring and Freising (not to the airport) every 20 to 40 minutes.
- the S 2 runs in the outdoor areas every hour, between Dachau and Markt Schwaben every 20 to 40 minutes. Due to construction work, it does not stop in Poing and Heimstetten.
- the S 3 runs in the outdoor areas every hour, between Maisach and Ostbahnhof every 20 to 40 minutes.
- the S 4 runs every hour between Geltendorf and Haar, and every 20 to 40 minutes between Buchenau and Trudering.
- the S 6 runs every hour. Due to the construction, there are no intermediate stops between Berg am Laim and Grafing Bahnhof. It should be noted that construction work with replacement rail traffic is in progress on the S 4 and S 6 east.
- the S 7 runs every hour.
- the S 8 runs between Pasing and the airport every 20 minutes, in the western outer sections from and to Germering every 20 to 40 minutes and from and to Herrsching every 60 minutes.
- the S 20 not applicable.

After the end of the strike on Friday morning at 2 a.m., it cannot be ruled out that there will be further delays in train traffic.
Even private railways could be hindered
In regional traffic, private railways are on the move on many routes, which are not on strike by the GDL and are likely to be on the way according to the schedule. But if Deutsche Bahn dispatchers also go on strike, the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) could very well have train cancellations, the private railway company said.
The failure of many S-Bahn trains will probably lead to them being full and less punctual. It will be hardest for Nuremberg because there are no private rail operators in regional traffic to Stuttgart, said Lukas Iffländer, deputy state chairwoman of the Pro Bahn passenger association.
In comparison with other federal states, Bavaria has the advantage that Deutsche Bahn still has many officials on duty here who are not on strike. In long-distance traffic, the DB wants to use long trains. The ICE between Nuremberg and Munich could possibly run every two hours.
