Munich: Greens want more kiosks in unpopulated places – Munich

The Greens in City Hall want to enable the construction of kiosks in unpopulated squares in city districts. The operators should be able to provide customers with small meals and drinks. Visitors should also be able to sit down to eat. This is what it says in an application by the parliamentary group, which is intended to ensure the necessary change in the city’s special use guidelines. The Greens cite Hans-Mielich-Platz in Untergiesing as an example of a place that could be livened up with a kiosk. There is already someone interested in building “a small Portuguese-style pavilion.”

City councilor Sebastian Weisenburger, who is also chairman of the responsible district committee, feels that people are very enthusiastic about the initiative and that there is strong support in local politics. Only the legal requirements are still missing at the moment. “Such ideas should not be slowed down, but made possible,” he explained. The Hans-Mielich-Platz could thus become a prototype for central locations and squares in the districts that could use more life.
