Munich: Gourmet restaurant Tian closes at the end of the year – Munich

The Tian group surprisingly announces that the top restaurant on the Viktualienmarkt is giving up. It had just been awarded three toques by Gault & Millau – and head chef Gerhardinger was the newcomer of the year.

The Tian restaurant on the Viktualienmarkt has just been awarded three Gault & Millau toques and one Michelin star. The speciality: vegan and vegetarian cuisine. There is nothing else on the plate at Tian. so the group claims to be closing the only restaurant in Germany. December 31, 2022 is the end of the Viktualienmarkt, the lease expires.

“Of course, the decision is not easy for us, since we were able to win numerous regular guests who have faithfully accompanied us in recent years,” says a statement. “We therefore hope to see them again elsewhere. The Tian in Munich is currently the group’s only restaurant in Germany, but new projects are being planned, they say.

There is currently a restaurant and a bistro in Vienna as well as the pop-up restaurant “Tian Bistro am Meer” in Croatia, in winter there will be a pop-up “Tian auf Skiurlaub in Zürs” in Austria.

Head chef Viktor Gerhardinger has just been awarded the title “Rising Star of the Year” by the renowned gourmet guide Gault&Millau. The 32-year-old from Passau, who came to Munich ten years ago and came to cook via a university detour, has been at Tian in Munich since 2019. And if his bosses have their way, he and his team should remain in the group even after the closure.
