Munich: Further demonstration against BR plans – Munich

On September 19, 1963, the Bavarian Radio studio building on Munich’s Marsstrasse was ceremoniously inaugurated with a radio and symphony orchestra. 60 years later there will be live music again, but it won’t be a cheerful birthday party – on the contrary: from 5 p.m., the “BR Studiobau Save” initiative is calling for a rally on Rundfunkplatz to “against the planned, insane demolition of the studio construction and also to demonstrate against the “Bayern 2 Reform”, as Eva Demmelhuber writes.

As it became known this summer, the old building will not be renovated and a new building will be built. In the past few weeks and months, plans to restructure the radio station Bayern 2 have also caused unrest on the BR and in the scene. Independent cultural programs are in danger from 2024 onwards; there is talk of “clear-cutting”. The BR itself speaks of a “cultural offensive” and sees the restructuring as an upgrade of culture.

The organizers of the demo on Tuesday, September 19th promise a “fact check”. Numerous prominent supporters have announced themselves, including Friedrich Ani, Monika Drasch, Gert Heidenreich Wedding chapel, Evelyn Huber, Thomas Loibl, Johanna Bittenbinder and Heinz-Josef Braun. There will be greetings from Konstantin Wecker and August Zirner, as well as lots of live music.
