Munich: Dispute about the Böglwiese in Perlach – Munich

Despite protests from the neighborhood and regardless of all attempts at mediation by local politicians, an interim school in containers is to be built on the Böglwiese in Perlach. The authority announced that the location issue had been decided by the municipal department for education and sport (RBS). Accordingly, all proposed alternatives have been examined, but these would not come into question for various reasons.

Therefore, the RBS is sticking to its plans to build alternative accommodation for the primary school on Theodor-Heuss-Platz on a large part of the Böglwiese, while the school center there is being demolished and rebuilt. The move is planned for the start of the 2024/2025 school year, and the container school is to be used for five years.

There has been fierce criticism of these plans for the last large green area in the center of Perlach. More than 2,600 people signed a petition against the development, and a citizens’ initiative was founded. According to local residents, the hundred by hundred meter Böglwiese is indispensable for Perlach because of its recreational value. They fear that the interim school is only the first step towards permanent development. The citizens’ initiative also contacted the Ramersdorf-Perlach (BA) district committee, which then requested a round table on the Böglwiese.

The RBS rejected this demand, which caused a lot of trouble in the BA. Chairman Thomas Kauer (CSU) criticizes: “It can’t be that the RBS says: We’ll put it on the green field, and then that’s the way it is.” It is now expected that the authority will send a representative to the citizens’ meeting for Ramersdorf on July 20th in the elementary school on Führichstrasse. The RBS reports that an information event is being planned, which may take place as part of the citizens’ meeting.

Concerning the concern that the container school will be followed by permanent development on the Böglwiese, the RBS says: “There are no plans for further use of the interim facility on Böglstrasse, so that the pavilion system will be dismantled and the green space restored .”

Kauer, however, is reminiscent of the containers that were once set up as alternative quarters on the grounds of the elementary school at Strehleranger in Neuperlach. They are still there today and are now intended to serve as an interim residence for the special needs support center on Theodor-Heuss-Platz.
