Munich: Corso Leopold starts at the weekend – Munich

With an art performance entitled “War and Peace” at the Siegestor, the Corso Leopold will start the recently entered into cooperation with the association “Internationaler Kultur Kunstkilometer” this Saturday. The association, which is active in Flensburg, has set itself the goal of bringing more life and cohesion into the inner cities through culture and filling them with painting, literature, dance and music. In Munich, eight artists from Munich and the north will paint live together on the subject of “War and Peace”. The work is later to be auctioned off in favor of the German Children’s Fund.

The art performance at the “Theater der Corsaren” (near Leopoldstraße 3), one of a total of ten stages at the culture festival, will be projected onto the Siegestor in real time from 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. September 9th is the International Day to Protect Education from Attack. With this, the United Nations wants to remind people of the plight of millions of children and young people who are affected by wars and armed conflicts and who have a right to education in safety.

The Corso Leopold is again expecting around 250,000 visitors this weekend on Leopoldstrasse, which is closed to traffic, between Münchner Freiheit and Siegestor. More than 600 artists perform on the ten stages. The offer ranges from comedy to Bavarian rock, dance courses and “Schwabing live” to hits and experimental music. In addition to the art performance, event director Lars Mentrup counts the meditative moving video installation by the artist collective “We are Video” among the highlights. It can be seen on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the north side of the Siegestor. At a late hour the “Headphone Party” starts there, which lasts until two o’clock in the morning.

The democracy mile, where visitors can talk to politicians at the information stands of numerous parties, is also unique. Representatives of the “democratic parties from the state parliament,” as Mentrup says, will discuss mobility and transport, culture and business, and climate and energy in three talks. The AfD, which remains excluded, therefore wants to hold a rally on the edge of the site.

Although individual car manufacturers are also present on the mobility mile, Mentrup does not expect climate activists or IAA opponents to take action, after all the companies are only allowed to present “e-mobiles” on the Corso Leopold. This time, the gastronomic offer also includes small beer gardens.

Andreas Keck, who has been the new chairman of the Corso Leopold association for almost a year, was pleased that the generational change in the team had succeeded and that the number of members was growing again. The Corso Leopold is open on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
