Munich uses 48 million tons of material per year for buildings, mobility, nutrition and more. This is shown by the first study to measure the circular economy in a metropolis. Their authors strongly recommend a diet.
Cities are voracious. They consume many tons of natural resources, water and energy. Unfortunately, the people of Munich are no exception – on the contrary: they consume an average of 32 tons of raw materials per person per year. That is eleven tons more than the German average and four times the estimated sustainable level of eight tons per year.
