A 50-year-old construction worker was seriously injured while dismantling the Oktoberfest on Friday morning. His life is in danger, as a police spokesman told the SZ on Saturday. The man was dismantling a ride with his colleagues when he fell from a height of five meters and suffered a serious head injury.
His colleagues observed the accident and immediately called the emergency number. Firefighters, rescue workers and emergency doctors treated the seriously injured man and took him to the shock room of a Munich clinic. The patient’s health continued to deteriorate during the operation.
It is unclear why the man was traveling at a height of five meters without adequate security. This will be one of the focal points in the accident investigation, said the police spokesman. After the accident, a police patrol was on site, and now Commissariat 13, which is responsible for industrial accidents, will take over the investigation.
The police did not want to officially confirm which ride occurred when the accident was being dismantled. The City of Munich’s Labor and Economics Department, which is responsible for the Oktoberfest, could not be reached for questions on Saturday.
