Munich: Construction work on S-Bahn S1 and S8 and replacement buses to the airport in January – Munich

The S1 and S8 to Munich Airport will be interrupted in alternating sections until January 22nd. As Deutsche Bahn announced, passengers must prepare for delays and timetable changes. The overhead lines on the route will be replaced over the next three weeks. According to Deutsche Bahn, there will be replacement services and express buses during peak times. However, the travel time is longer.

On the eastern branch of the S8, various sections are to be interrupted for three weeks in succession from January 2nd. Affected are the routes from Ostbahnhof to Ismaning until January 11th, then for one day to Johanneskirchen, until January 15th to the airport, until January 19th again to Johanneskirchen, then again until January 22nd to the airport. According to Deutsche Bahn, the replacement buses run every ten minutes during peak hours. Until January 11th, additional express buses will be in use between Berg am Laim and Unterföhring during rush hour.

Alternatively, you can use the S1 to and from the airport. But on the two weekends from January 12th to 15th and 19th to 22nd, the last section of the route to the airport will be closed due to a tunnel inspection and grinding work on the tracks; the S1 ends at the visitor park. The airport will then only be accessible by buses, which, according to the replacement timetable, will run every 20 minutes.

Where and at what times the replacement transport and express buses leave, as well as further information about the construction site, can be found here.
