Munich: Cocktails for breakfast at Bono on Leopoldstrasse – Munich

The Bono, a mixture of Italian restaurant and cocktail bar, has been leading a contemporary existence on Leopoldstrasse for more than two years without any major anomalies, both positive and negative. Pizza and pasta, carpaccio and tartufo, a few truffles here, a few prawns there, later a spritz variant or even a gin basil smash; All of this in a photogenic atmosphere with lots of velvet and black blankets, the tables draped around the U-shaped counter.

For a while now, Bono has also been offering a brunch menu that leaves little to be desired and also includes a few cocktails: from the classic Mimosa, also with cranberry juice (6.50 euros), to a Bellini (8.50 euros). Vanilla Espresso Martini (13 euros). The dim ambience, cozy and cave-like, with heavy curtains in front of the shop windows on Leopoldstrasse, creates the illusion of a gentle transition from night to day. But you can just as easily stop off fresh and well-rested for a healthy hipster breakfast with a matching smoothie. Just a reservation doesn’t hurt.

What is there and how much does it cost?

A very classic breakfast platter for two is of course called Romeo and Juliet and is served for 33 euros with gravlax, sausage and cheese, two yogurts with fruit, two butter croissants, bread, jam and Nutella. Eggs Benedict (16 euros) are available as well as French toast (12 euros), fried eggs with bacon and fried potatoes (15 euros) or scrambled eggs with spinach, tomatoes, mozzarella and Italian country ham (15 euros). If you want to treat yourself, order “You’re My Truffle”, malt bread with either fried or scrambled eggs, fresh truffle, Grana Padano and rocket (17 euros).

“Avo Addicted” is a malt bread that comes to the table with cream cheese, an egg of your choice, avocado and cherry tomatoes (14 euros), optionally with toppings such as gravlax or feta. And for a very empty stomach, the “Brunch Burger” with Irish beef, homemade burger sauce, cheddar and fried egg comes in handy (14 euros).

Of course, pancakes shouldn’t be missing either. They are served with fresh fruit, vanilla ice cream and powdered sugar, or with Nutella, maple syrup or pistachio cream (13 euros). The smoothie bowls with acai or mango (10/11 euros), which are also decorated with a variety of fruits, from dragon fruit to currants, are also not bad.

The look is great, but the pancakes are a bit doughy and could have used more cream, the avocado and egg lack some spice. Overall, the dishes are solid, if not particularly refined. The Bono caters to many people with its brunch menu.

There are smoothies and freshly squeezed juices to drink, and of course coffee. A cappuccino costs around four euros, oat milk costs 50 cents extra. Free of charge, there is a touch of exclusive feeling that the reception desk conveys, which the guest encounters as soon as he has pushed aside the curtain at the entrance.

And so the day may be quite gray, inside with hustle and bustle, colorful fruit on the plate and nestled in a velvet cushion, you can’t care about what’s outside. The Bono provides a gentle start to a cozy winter weekend.
