The city council decides on a new funding model for daycare centers. For the vast majority of families, this guarantees continued low fees. But some are desperate because they will have to pay significantly more in the future.
The parents of around 90,000 children in Munich can continue to enjoy low fees for after-school care, kindergarten and crèche – but several thousand families are threatened by a massive price increase. Because on Wednesday the city council decided on a new model for how daycare providers will be funded from September 1st. Participation in the so-called deficit compensation system is voluntary; quite a few operators of private daycare centers feel unable to do so. They criticize that the strict requirements threaten their existence.
