Munich: Bookworm in the mayor’s office. Dominik Krause’s plans for culture – Munich

Dominik Krause quickly moved into the mayor’s office after Katrin Haben Schaden moved to Deutsche Bahn. For many, he was a blank slate – including in the cultural sector, for which he is now responsible. What does he plan to do with it? And does he play the guitar like the mayor?

Dominik Krause is 33 years old. And even though the Sturm und Drang phase in life is usually slowly coming to an end, Munich’s second mayor still speaks with youthful verve about the topics that interest him. When the Munich native and studied physicist was chosen by the Greens last fall as their successor to Katrin Haben Schaden, who unexpectedly switched to business and went to Berlin to work for Deutsche Bahn, many people were surprised. Krause is considered to be positioned further to the left, more confrontational – but otherwise? That was also the question, especially in the Munich cultural scene.
