A main street and adjacent side streets in the district, where many migrants also live, were affected. The election posters were written in German, Arabic and Turkish. The damage could not initially be quantified. A report was filed for theft and damage to property.

Leipzig’s CDU leader Andreas Nowak told “Bild” that the campaign was developed together with migrant traders and that the traders had put up the posters themselves. “I have been campaigning since 1990. But I have never experienced such an attack,” Nowak told the DPA. “We’re also addressing the Arabic and Turkish-speaking residents of the area and making it clear what we expect. By the way, the dealers there see it the same way.” He announced that he wanted to replace the posters with the traders.
