The cinema operator and initiator of the Five Lakes Film Festival, Matthias Helwig, will receive the Wilhelm Hausenstein award for services to cultural mediation in 2021. The board of directors of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts awards the award, endowed with 5000 euros, on the grounds: “Matthias Helwig is a passionate cinema maker. For three decades he has been fighting as a cinema operator to promote the art of film in the five-lake region south of Munich, where he founded a festival to bring filmmakers and audiences together. ” The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 20, from 7 p.m. in the academy. The laudation will be given by Edgar Reitz.
