After a strong comeback, Mainz 05 is well on the way to staying in the league. One point in Wolfsburg is probably enough to save us. Nothing should change in terms of mentality for the final.

The After taking over 15th place, FSV Mainz 05 does not want to start playing calculations in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga. “You can never play for one point. It shouldn’t happen that we think we have achieved something great. You have to play to win. We have to think forward,” said sports director Martin Schmidt after the 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund.

The 05ers are now two points ahead of 16th place in the table. Union Berlin and also have a significantly better goal difference. A draw at VfL Wolfsburg should realistically be enough to save the game next Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky).

“We have to keep hunting. We have to remain hunters. We have to stay active and not go into administration mode,” demanded Schmidt after the convincing performance against the Champions League finalists. They “took advantage” of the fact that BVB made so many changes compared to the 1-0 win in Paris.

Direct relegation is off the table early after a strong comeback under coach Bo Henriksen. “I think we can just be proud of our performance. There were never any big doubts about who needed the points more,” said Silvan Widmer. Leandro Barreiro and double goalscorer Jae-sung Lee had already made the decision with their goals before the break. Dortmund will end the Bundesliga season in fifth place and are only looking ahead to the premier class final on June 1st against Real Madrid.
