Hardly any other living pianist embodies musical foresight, competence and integrity as he does. When he first appears with a microphone to introduce his fellow soloists, whose names are not in the program, it seems authentic. When he then presents himself with the words “My name is András Schiff and I play the piano, i.e. on the wrong instrument,” then this is an ambiguous sentence that not only refers to his documented knowledge in the area of historical interpretation.
