Munich has been awarded two football games by the US professional league NFL. This was announced by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday afternoon (local time) in Los Angeles. The first game will take place in the Fröttmaninger Arena next autumn, the season starts in September and lasts until the end of December.
“There will be two games in Munich and two in Frankfurt over the next four years,” Goodell said at a press conference a few days before the Super Bowl on Sunday. Munich, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf had previously made it onto the shortlist.
Dozens of league games have been played in London since 2007. However, Germany is an increasingly important sales market for the NFL. Which teams will travel to Munich is still open. It is possible that the top team of the Kansas City Chiefs is among them, because the team from the Midwest operates a cooperation with FC Bayern and had announced that they wanted to focus on the German market.
