Munich: ALX derailed when maneuvering – Munich

A train derailed near the Hacker Bridge in Munich on Monday evening. The ALX train of the Länderbahn jumped off the rails at platform 26 when exiting the main station, according to the police. There were no passengers on board during the shunting operation, and nobody was injured.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the empty train with eight carriages was to be shunted from platform 26 of the main station to be parked. According to initial investigations, the shunting attendant on the track apron recognized a signal too late. The train driver initiated emergency braking, but was unable to stop the train, which was traveling at around 20 kilometers per hour, in time for the barrier.

Two cars drove over the track block and, according to the information, derailed at the eastern end of the Hackerbrücke S-Bahn station. The first car derailed completely and dug into the track bed. The second derailed about halfway. Significant material damage was caused to the track bed, the signal, the concrete sleepers and two wagons. In the evening, Deutsche Bahn began salvaging the train.

The federal police have started investigations into endangering rail traffic. The extent of the damage cannot yet be quantified.
