A day-long warning strike began at Munich Airport in the morning. “Everything started as planned,” said Manuela Dietz from the Verdi union. The location is very quiet. All regular passenger flights were canceled on the last day of school before the Bavarian carnival holidays, and no passenger planes were supposed to land or take off until 1 a.m. on Saturday. Excluded are, among other things, the more than 50 announced private flights to the Munich Security Conference beginning on Friday.
According to the airport, more than 700 take-offs and landings and around 90,000 passengers are affected by the cessation of passenger operations in Munich. Passengers who actually wanted to fly to or from Munich on Friday are strongly advised to inquire with their respective airline.
The Verdi union had called for all-day warning strikes at several German airports. A joint strike by public sector employees, aviation security and ground handling services is planned in Munich, as Verdi Bayern announced on Wednesday. From 11:00 a.m., the strikers want to gather at the airport for a demonstration. According to union information, individual pickets had already taken up positions during the night.
