Munich: A film and a photo project about Leni Riefenstahl are causing trouble – Munich

It’s a cross with Leni Riefenstahl. Even 21 years after her death in Pöcking, Upper Bavaria, the director, who made a pact with the Nazis out of immense ambition and created Nazi propaganda films like “Triumph of the Will,” is still causing trouble. Her last feature film, “Tiefland,” which was completed in 1944, was 80 years ago. The fact that she forcibly recruited more than 100 Sinti and Roma from the Maxglan Nazi forced camp has been an issue again in recent weeks. Or more precisely: a critical documentary that Nina Gladitz made about it in 1982 and which the WDR allowed to disappear in the archives for 40 years after a lawsuit from Riefenstahl. Now an exhibition of Riefenstahl photos is also causing a stir. As well as a film that was planned to be presented at the Munich Film Museum.
