Munich: 81-year-old robbed in tram – police have to release suspect – Munich

The police quickly solved the robbery of a handbag on tram line 21 on Thursday morning and arrested a suspect. However, he was soon released because there was not enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant.

The victim of the crime was an 81-year-old woman who was taking the tram towards St. Veit-Straße around five in the morning. Suddenly, according to police, a man hit her on the shoulder from behind and snatched her purse that was hanging over her shoulder. Having now reached the final stop, the perpetrator fled with his loot.

The woman turned to the tram driver, who called the police. A little later they found a 30-year-old with no permanent address in Germany who, as it turned out, had money with him in the same amount and denomination as the woman had carried in her handbag.

However, the bag itself was not found. The man was nevertheless charged with robbery. However, there was not enough evidence for an arrest warrant, especially because the surveillance cameras in the tram did not record the incident. So the man was released – for the time being.
