Munich: 100 intersections with green arrow – Munich

Red light, no traffic, no danger when turning right. The city has now installed a sign with a green arrow at 100 intersections for such situations. However, this only applies to cyclists, who are supposed to be spared unnecessary waiting times. Mobility officer Georg Dunkel placed the anniversary arrow at the intersection of Winthirstrasse and Wendl-Dietrich-Strasse in Neuhausen.

The idea was received via the so-called cycling reporting platform, where road users can make suggestions for improvements. These are then checked in the mobility department to see whether they can be implemented and make sense for traffic flow. “With a green arrow for cyclists, you can turn on your bike independently of the cars. In recent years, this has ensured greater traffic safety, especially for pedestrians,” explained Dunkel.

Like drivers, cyclists also have to stop briefly when they see a green arrow before entering the intersection. The sign has been around in Germany since 2020, but Munich had already taken part in a model test beforehand.
