Unanimously, the National Assembly approved this Thursday the creation of a commission of inquiry which will be responsible for studying sexist and sexual violence in the sectors of cinema, audiovisual, performing arts, fashion and advertising.

“It is time to stop rolling out the red carpet for the aggressors,” said Green MP Francesca Pasquini, who initiated the proposed resolution, after the vote. The commission of inquiry, which must be formed on May 13 and should deliver its conclusions in six months, will notably have to “identify the mechanisms and failures which allow these possible abuses and violence”, “establish the responsibilities of each actor in this matter ”, and “make recommendations on the responses to be provided”.
The creation of this commission comes the day after the publication of a book by actress Isild Le Besco, where she discusses at length the relationship between her and Benoît Jacquot, which began when she was 16 years old. If she accuses him of having raped her, she says she is not ready to file a complaint against him.
