In the 1980s and 1990s, Patitz was one of the most successful supermodels in the world, along with Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford. She has graced the covers of fashion magazines and appeared in the music video for George Michael’s “Freedom.” “Vogue” boss Anna Wintour said in her magazine: “Tatjana was always the European symbol of chic – like Romy Schneider-meets-Monica Vitti. She was much less visible than her colleagues – more mysterious, more mature, more aloof – and that had its own attraction.”

Patitz became known mainly through pictures by the star photographer Peter Lindbergh. She grew up in Sweden before emigrating to California and is survived by a son.
