Dieter Mann may still be known to many people from the film “Der Untergang”. The actor and former director of the Deutsches Theater has now died at the age of 80.

Dieter Mann has been on stage for decades and is also remembered by viewers from numerous cinema and television productions. The former director of the Deutsches Theater has now died in his hometown of Berlin at the age of 80. This was confirmed by his wife of the German Press Agency.

From 1962 Mann studied at the State Drama School in Berlin. While still a student he played at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and was a permanent member of the ensemble from 1964 to 2006. Among other things, he embodied Edgar Wibeau in “The New Sorrows of Young W.”. From 1984 to 1991 he worked there as director.

Dieter Mann was also often seen on television

In 1965 Mann made his film debut in “Berlin around the corner”. He later took on roles in films such as “The Promise” (1994), “Der Untergang” (2004) and “13 Semester” (2009). On television, he was seen in the crime productions “The Last Witness”, “A Strong Team” and “Bella Block”. He also took on several roles in the “Tatort” film series. In 2020 he was awarded the honorary prize of the German Acting Prize for his life’s work.
