Mourning for British author: Fay Weldon is dead

The British writer Fay Weldon is dead. This was reported by the British news agency PA, citing her family. Feldon died “peacefully” on Wednesday morning. She was 91 years old.

The Briton, who grew up in New Zealand, leaves behind a body of work consisting of more than 30 novels, including “Die Teufelin” (original title: “The Life and Loves of a She-Devil”), which is well-known in Germany and co-authored with Roseanne Barr and Meryl Streep was filmed. In addition to novels, in which mostly women play the leading role, Weldon also wrote children’s books, screenplays and guest articles for newspapers. At times she also worked as an advertising copywriter.

Former Booker Prize Jury Chair

Her novel “Praxis” (in English: “The Blanket of Happiness”) from 1978 was nominated for the renowned Booker Prize, whose jury she later chaired for a time. Weldon taught creative writing at Bath Spa University until 2021. In 2001 she was awarded a Royal Order for her services to literature.
