So far, Formula 1 returnee Nico Hülkenberg has not been able to really shine at Haas. Nevertheless, the team is probably planning with him beyond the season.

Nico Hülkenberg can hope for another Formula 1 year as a Haas regular driver. According to team boss Günther Steiner, the US racing team is not currently planning any changes to its driver pairing for the coming season.

“In terms of the driver market, we’re pretty happy with what we have at the moment,” said the Italian ahead of Sunday’s Montreal race. In addition to the 35-year-old Hülkenberg, the Dane Kevin Magnussen (30) drives for Haas.

Hülkenberg the only regular German Formula 1 driver

The team wants to announce the two drivers for next season as soon as possible, said Steiner. “So that we don’t get stuck like last year and tell you it will happen at the next race and then it will be boring,” added the team boss.

Haas had delayed a decision about Mick Schumacher’s future for a long time last year before the separation was announced and Hülkenberg was hired as his successor. The Rhinelander had previously worked as a reserve driver for three years, during which he only made a few appearances in races.

Before the eighth round of the season in Canada, Hülkenberg is twelfth in the World Championship with six points. In the defeated Haas, the Emmericher has little chance of getting a top place. After the retirement of Sebastian Vettel and the end of Mick Schumacher, Hülkenberg is the only German regular driver in Formula 1.
