Mortar fire riddled the town hall of the 4th arrondissement in protest against Macron’s re-election

Sunday evening, after the announcement of the presidential results, a group gathered at Place Colbert, in Lyon (4th) to demonstrate against the re-election of Emmanuel Macron, reports Progress. About 300 people, including antifas and yellow vests, formed a procession strolling along the slopes and the boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, behind a banner reading “Down with Macron, the Robin des bourges”.

The town hall of the 4th riddled with mortar fire

Arrived in front of the town hall of the 4th arrondissement, demonstrators targeted the facade of the building with a salvo of mortar fire. The police intervened and dispersed the crowd with tear gas. The demonstrators fell back towards the Place des Terreaux, causing various damage in progress and launching new mortar fire towards the police.

Two Lyonnais were arrested and placed in police custody. Rémi Zinck, the EELV mayor of the 4th arrondissement, deplored these incidents on Twitter: “It is at the ballot box and not against a public building and its agents still at work, that the legitimate frustration of this presidential election will have to be expressed”, he wrote.
