I’La Transalpine Associationwhich has, among other things, the objective of “carrying out any action likely to facilitate or accelerate the construction of the high-capacity rail link, passengers and goods, between Lyon and Turin”, has just revealed the results of an Ifop survey that she ordered.
Of the 803 people questioned in May, who live in Rhône-Alpes, 75% had already heard of this project. Before asking the famous central question, an upgrade specified: “This new 270 km line between Lyon and Turin, which notably includes a tunnel under the Alps currently being dug, should make it possible to reduce travel time by two hours passengers between France and Italy, but also to develop rail freight transport by switching more than one million heavy goods vehicles onto rail every year. This new line will therefore be used for both passenger and freight transport. »
Defenders and opponents of the project are for the same reason
Those in favor explained that they were because of the reduction of trucks on the road, because it seemed practical to them, but also because the line would allow “less pollution”. This last argument is also the first (and the main) presented by the inhabitants opposed to the project.
At the beginning of June, some forty mayors called for the acceleration of Lyon-Turin, while a major demonstration was organized last weekend by the Uprisings of the Earth, whose dissolution was pronounced on Wednesday, to protest against the construction of this high-speed rail line.
