More first-year students in Bavaria – Bavaria

The number of first-year students in Bavaria increased in 2023. As the Bavarian State Office for Statistics announced on Monday, 77,957 people enrolled at a university in the Free State for the first time last year, 4.3 percent more than in 2022. The majority started in the winter semester of 2023/2024, and the authority reported 10,197 for the summer semester Initial registrations.

Universities and state technical colleges recorded increases. According to statistics, there was a decline of 18.4 percent to 3,655 first-time enrollees at private technical colleges. According to the authority, a good half of the first-year students are female. In human medicine and health sciences, the proportion of women is 74.3 percent, and in the subjects of art and art science it is 66.8 percent.

Around a third of new students came from abroad, as the figures show. According to the state office, a total of 405,379 students are enrolled in Bavaria, 0.5 percent more than a year ago. The authority relies on preliminary reports from the student offices for the current winter semester.
