Florian Hahn, defense policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, compared activists from the “Last Generation” alliance to the Afghan Taliban on the short message service Twitter. After supporters of the climate protection group smeared the glass sculpture “Monument 49” in Berlin’s government district on Saturday, Hahn wrote on Twitter: “The #LastGeneration is no better than the Taliban. Desecrating this monument of democracy is just disgusting.” On Monday night, the CSU member of the Bundestag from Ottobrunn near Munich, who has more than 11,000 followers on the short message service, deleted the tweet and wrote that he had “made an inappropriate comparison” that I am sorry.

Hahn is seen on Twitter as a pugnacious politician who comments on a variety of topics – for example against the release of cannabis planned by the traffic light, the feminist foreign policy of Green Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, on the federal government’s turnaround in the Security and defense policy, but also in contrast to the AfD, whose youth organization he recently dubbed a “fascist bastard”.

When it became known recently that the People’s Republic of China wanted to push ahead with the construction of numerous new coal-fired power plants, Hahn targeted climate protectionists on Twitter and wrote: “When will the #last generation be on Beijing’s streets?” Hahn described the recent action by the activists in Berlin as follows: “Yesterday the last generation defiled the monument to the Basic Law.” The CSU politician justifies his tweet out of “full anger” that he was carried away to the Taliban comparison.
Korbinian Rüger, Hahn’s SPD candidate in the 2021 federal election in the Munich-Land constituency, commented on the now-deleted tweet on the short message service with harsh words: “You think of this action what you want. It’s not mine. But a comment like that really is infinitely stupid. It’s also a fire hazard,” said the social democrat from Planegg.
