Monkey pox: 53 new cases of Monkeypox virus detected in three days, Occitania second most affected region

Public Health France provides an update this Thursday on the evolution of the epidemic due to the Monkeypox virus.

As of June 23, 2022, 330 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in France, reveals Public health France this Thursday evening, 53 more than Tuesday, June 21. The cases are distributed across the territory as follows:

  • 227 in Ile-de-France,
  • 22 in Occitania,
  • 21 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes,
  • 19 in New Aquitaine,
  • 14 in Hauts-de-France,
  • 14 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur,
  • 6 in Normandy,
  • 3 in Brittany,
  • 1 in Centre-Loire Valley,
  • 1 in Burgundy-Franche-Comté,
  • 1 in Pays de la Loire
  • 1 in the Great East.

With six additional cases confirmed in three daysI’Occitania stay here second most affected region of France.

Of the 302 cases confirmed as of June 22, 287 have been investigated, four remain unreachable and 11 are under investigation.

Among these cases, only one concerns a young womanwhose (untested) partner reported he had a rash 3 weeks prior.

Between 19 and 71 years old

Confirmed cases as of June 22 are between 19 and 71 years old (median age: 35 years).

The dates of onset of symptoms extend between May 7 and June 18, 2022.

Cases were diagnosed a median of 7 days (range 0 to 22 days) after the onset of symptoms.

Among the cases investigated,

  • 77% presented a genito-anal rash,
  • 73% a eruption on another part of the body,
  • 71% a fever
  • 69% of the adenopathies (pathological increase in the volume of a lymph node).

13 of these cases were immunocompromised. However, no deaths were reported.

“To date, as in other European countriesPublic Health France tip, these cases occurred mostly, but not exclusively, in men who have sex with men (MSM), with no direct link to people returning from endemic areas. The majority of cases report multiple sexual partners.”

Most cases report not being able to identify the person who allegedly infected them.
