France has a new ambassador. Miss Ile-de-France, Diane Leyre, was elected Miss France, on the night of Saturday December 11 to Sunday December 12, in Caen, during a program broadcast on TF1. She succeeds Miss France 2021, the Norman Amandine Petit.

The jury chaired by Jean-Pierre Pernaut notably brought together singer Amel Bent and François Alu, principal dancer of the Paris Opera. “I like the Miss France contest (…) It’s a fun, glamorous contest”Culture Minister Roselyne Bachelot said on BFMTV on Friday. “We need a little lightness” and these young women “are far from being vases”, estimated the minister.

This competition, reserved for single women with a minimum height of 1.70 meters, is however the subject of an increasing number of criticisms. The Minister for Equality between Women and Men Elisabeth Moreno, thus deplored Friday of the “outdated rules (…) which can be discriminatory”. Elisabeth Moreno spoke in a brief interview she gave to AFP after meeting the misses in Caen. Elisabeth Moreno regretted that for example a “widowed woman or a woman who is already a mother cannot apply”.
