Mineral water – It’s no longer bubbling – Economy

Less mineral water was produced in Germany last year. The amount produced of 12.4 billion liters corresponded to a decrease of 6.3 percent compared to the previous year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office. Compared to the record year 2018, there is a minus of almost 14 percent. One reason for this could be the closed gastronomy during the corona pandemic, but also the competition from water filters and bubblers that carbonate tap water. Last year, more than half of the mineral water produced contained little or no carbonic acid. While the production of the variants “medium” and “still” has been growing for years, the proportion of classic sparkling water with a lot of carbonic acid has decreased.
