A former head of the Marist boarding school in Mindelheim was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison by the Memmingen district court on Friday for sexual abuse of children and sexual assault. The sentence is suspended. The friar, who has since been expelled from the Marist Order, also faced charges of rape but was acquitted on that count. At the beginning of the trial, he admitted to the abuse and sexual assault, but denied the rape. The boarding school in Mindelheim has been closed for several years. The former Frater had already been sentenced twice to suspended sentences for sexual abuse in 2008 and 2011.
