In the 1960s, the band The Four Seasons led by singer Frankie Valli competed with the Beatles with hits like “Sherry” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” Now they will receive a “Walk of Fame” star.
With songs like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like A Man” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” The Four Seasons stormed the charts decades ago. Now the US pop and rock band around frontman Frankie Valli is to be honored with a star plaque in Hollywood. Valli and keyboardist Bob Gaudio (81) will receive the 2780th star on the “Walk of Fame”, the award winners announced. Valli, who was known for his high falsetto voice, will be 90 years old on that day. Guitarist Tommy DeVito died in 2020 at the age of 92, singer Nick Massi died in 2000.
The musicians came together in Newark (US state of New Jersey) in 1960. The group was one of the few bands that competed with the Beatles in the USA in the early 1960s. Their eventful story was the basis for the hit musical “Jersey Boys,” which premiered on Broadway in New York in 2005. Clint Eastwood directed a film of the same name in 2014.
The “Walk of Fame” is a stretch of sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles into which the star-shaped plaques are embedded. The stars have been awarded since 1960.
