Miltenberg: power outages and closed roads due to snow – Bavaria

As the district administrator of Miltenberg announced, around 7,500 people were still without electricity on Saturday morning. The fact that so many trees have fallen is also due to the type of snow.

The heavy snowfall in the district of Miltenberg on Saturday night caused power outages in numerous towns and several road closures. On Saturday morning, 15 towns and around 7,500 people were still without electricity, said District Administrator Jens Marco Scherf. It could sometimes take until the afternoon before the power supply is completely restored.

According to the district administrator, the road closures were invariably caused by fallen trees. Not only the amount, but also the type of snow was problematic, said Scherf: “It was an enormously wet and heavy snow, which caused many trees to be pushed down.”

To his knowledge, there have not been any accidents with injuries so far. Scherf warned against removing roadblocks by hand. It had happened several times during the morning that the barriers had simply been pushed aside. That was “dangerous and selfish,” said the district administrator, because you not only endanger yourself, but also following drivers.

In emergencies and if the phone stops working, citizens could contact the fire department. A public telephone has also been set up.
