Millions in damage after fires on farms in Allgäu – Bavaria

Large-scale operations for the voluntary fire brigades in the Allgäu: According to initial police estimates, fires on farms in Marktoberdorf and Wertach could have caused damage totaling over four million euros. In Marktoberdorf (Ostallgäu district), the farm buildings of two neighboring farms caught fire early Tuesday morning, according to the police headquarters in Swabia South/West. Sparks also damaged a third building. A man suffered from smoke inhalation. 170 firefighters from eight towns finally put out the fires and saved the houses in the two courtyards. The police estimated the damage at two to three million euros. The cause of fire was unclear for the moment. As usual in such cases, the criminal police are now investigating. The details are still unclear, said a police spokesman.

On Monday evening in Wertach (Oberallgäu district), a stable building burned down, and five volunteer fire brigades from the area with 150 men came to the rescue. The investigators estimated the damage at 1.5 million euros. Nobody got hurt. In this case, too, the police are investigating. According to the police headquarters, there is no connection between the fires.
