Mikaela Shiffrin wins in giant, Tessa Worley falls in Courchevel-Méribel

It’s a huge slap for the french side, during the Courchevel and Méribel Worlds. Expected on the giant’s podium this Thursday, and perhaps at the very top after a first round finished in 2nd place, Tessa Worley fell in the second. World champion in the specialty in 2013 and 2017, the 33-year-old Frenchwoman therefore failed to pass three on the Méribel track, during the last major challenge of her career.

On the other hand, the American Mikaela Shiffrin (27) won the only race that was missing from her huge record ahead of the Italian Federica Brignone and the Norwegian Ragnhild Mowinckel, respectively second at 12 hundredths, and third at 22 hundredths. Best Frenchman, Coralie Frasse Sombet finished ninth, 1 second and 32 hundredths behind.

His coach left during the Worlds

Silver last week on the Super-G, and after a complicated separation with his historic trainer Mike Day, Shiffrin obtained his 13th medal in Worlds. Despite a fault at the end of the second run, she managed the feat of being crowned in a fourth different discipline after the slalom (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019), the super-G (2019) and the combined (2021) .

With seven titles at the World Championships, Shiffrin joins the Swedish Anja Pärson, the Austrians Toni Sailer and Marcel Hirscher, and the French Marielle Goitschel on the list. Only the German Christl Cranz (15 medals including 12 titles), skier of the 1930s, won more titles and medals than her.
