Trump suffered another defeat in the Arizona gubernatorial election. Democrat Hobbs won against Republican Lake, promoted by the ex-president – the latter immediately questioned the result.

According to media reports, candidate Kari Lake, who was supported by former US President Donald Trump, lost the gubernatorial election in the state of Arizona to Democrat Katie Hobbs. Hobbs prevailed after a close race against her Republican rival, as reported by the American broadcasters CNN and NBC.

“Democracy is worth the wait,” Hobbs wrote on Twitter, referring to the day-long vote count after the November 8 election. “Thank you, Arizona. I am so honored and proud to be your next governor.”

Hobbs’ party colleague, former astronaut Mark Kelly, had previously won the Arizona Senate seat.

The losers doubt the result

The defeated candidate Lake, a former TV news anchor and die-hard Trump supporter, like her mentor, regularly expresses doubts about the legality of the 2020 presidential election. Lake also cast doubt on the projections of the television stations for the gubernatorial election in Arizona. The people of the state were not fooled, she wrote on Twitter.

Trump also raised allegations of fraud on his online platform Truth Social. “You just took the election away from Kari Lake. It’s really bad out there,” he wrote.

The possible presidential candidate Trump is weakened

Several Trump-backed candidates suffered defeats in the congressional and gubernatorial elections, weakening the 76-year-old’s position within his party ahead of the expected announcement of his presidential re-election.

Trump promised a “very big announcement” on Tuesday evening at his private home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. He is then expected to announce his intention to run again in the 2024 presidential election.
