Bringing AI to the keyboard? With Copilot, Microsoft brings its personal touch to artificial intelligence. Literally and figuratively. The IT giant took advantage of the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas to unveil its first keyboards with a Copilot key.
Launched thirteen months ago, Copilot is the Chatbot powered by artificial intelligence and powered by ChatGPT from Open IA. Already present in the Microsoft Edge browser, but also recently in the form of an iOS and Android application (with free access to GPT-4, the latest Open AI model), Copilot will become immediately accessible via a dedicated key .
First Copilot keyboards in January
On future Windows keyboards, the Copilot key will replace the Menu key, or even List or Right Ctrl. Its services will be partly free, but undoubtedly also chargeable with subscription plans depending on the expected services. In the aisles of CES, it is already possible to discover the Copilot button on the new ultra-portable PCs from Acer Swift Go (in 14 and 16 inches), which will be launched in the second quarter of 2024.
Ask questions, request a summary of documents for a Teams meeting, write an email… the use cases offered by the Copilot assistant are countless.
This new key is a big step forward for Microsoft, which is now banking on AI to stand out, and which has not changed the keyboards of its computers since 1994 (with the introduction of the Windows key to display the start menu) !
It remains to be seen what Apple’s response will be to offer users of its Macs a touch of artificial intelligence…
